For the last few years, a lot of different tails shapes have been made. The tail is an important part of the bodyboard. As a matter of fact, its shape has an influence on the manoeuvrability and/or the speed of the bodyboard. Here, the more important tails are presented. (Others tails are just variations of these tails).
THE CRESCENT TAIL :
This is the most common tail. It is effective in all conditions except on small waves. Moreover it is suitable for both prone and drop knee. Then, it is comfortable for the body.
THE SQUARE TAIL :
This tail with a square shape is used by pro riders. It is more suitable for prone riders and gives to the rider more buoyancy than the crescent tail. However, you will have less catching and so more speed. It is useful for move using the projection of the lip. (Sometimes, you can see a square tail with round corners : it is the round-square tail).
THE ROUND TAIL :
The round tail gives a lot of manoeuvrability to the board particularly in small waves. This tail is useful for rotations but give to the board less catching in big or hollow waves.
THE BAT TAIL :
This tail with a shape as a wave is more and more use. It offers a good balance between a good speed, a good manoeuvrability and a good catching. It is suitable for all kind of waves (even if catching can be limit in very hollow waves). It is more effective in prone but it can be used for drop knee with no problem.
